The “Remember Holocaust – Building Bridges for a common future” project, focusing on the remembrance of the Jews Holocaust, aims to foster the understanding of the past while strengthening the dialogue about the future of the European Union. Through its activities, the project seeks to raise awareness on remembrance, highlight the Union values of solidarity, tolerance and peace and also to promote awareness about civic participation and intercultural engagement. Taking the extermination of Jews as starting point, the project also aims to commemorate its victims and enhance tolerance towards diversity. All project partners derive from places with a common historical point where the local population has been victimized by the anti-Semitism wave and has suffered great loses during the WWII.
The consortium of the project comprises of 4 youth organizations IRTEA, MUNICIPALITY OF MAKRAKOMI, KEDITH from Greece, EUROPEAN FOUNDATION FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT from Poland, JUBUK from Germany and YOUTH FOR EQUALITY Slovakia and 2 Greek Municipalities, which all of them share a common historical point where the local population has been victimized by the anti-Semitism wave and suffered great loses during the WWII.
There are several activities implemented within the project.
Interactive online workshop was organized on 20th of October 2020 for 90 young participants focusing on the paradigm of Holocaust and how its debris still affects people towards stereotypes and xenophobia. During the workshop, the young participants explored the consequences of the rise of far-right regimes and the ways that have been faced from the beginning of WWII since nowadays. The participants, through this activity, also discovered how EU values of freedom, diversity and inclusion have turned societies into tolerant and inclusive communities
A structured dialogue activity will be organized on 4th of December at 12:00 and 14:00 CET including discussions between policy makers of National Council of the Slovak Republic, Museum of Jewish culture and a holocaust survivor, representative of Comenius University, Milan Simecka Foundation and young people. During the structured dialogue, the participants will discuss and compare the causes of anti-semitism that resulted in the Holocaust with the current trends of discrimination and racism that arise within the EU.
During the Human Library, the participants will discuss issues of stereotypes elimination and fight of prejudice with the local Jews Community, survivors of the Holocaust or family members and civil society representatives. The “shelves” of the Human Library will offer “human books’’ that will recite their stories and experiences to the “readers”.
The Digitalized Exhibition includes photos, interviews and videos about the Holocaust using innovative technology. The aim of the Exhibition is to depict the causes and consequences of racism and totalitarian regimes in the digital environment.
Promotional Activities within High Schools in underrepresented areas in Athens and Thessaloniki will be organized by European Solidarity Corps Volunteers to present the project outcomes to both students and teachers.
