Educators as Co-Creators

Teachers and youth workers understand the practical realities of learning environments. They know that an activity may look excellent on paper but still be difficult to use with a particular group, within a limited time or with the resources available. Their experience is therefore important when developing an educational board game that should work in real settings.

In YouthCoLab, educators are not viewed only as people who will use the finished game. They can contribute to its development by sharing what works in classrooms, youth programmes and community activities. They can identify questions about group size, session length, facilitation, accessibility and the learning outcomes that should be supported. These details can make the difference between an interesting idea and a useful tool.

Educators can also help connect gameplay with reflection. After a round of play, participants may need questions that help them explain their decisions, consider other viewpoints and connect the activity with everyday life. A clear methodology can support facilitators in guiding this discussion without turning the game into another traditional lecture.

Their feedback is valuable because the final resource should be practical as well as engaging. YouthCoLab aims to bring together the perspectives of young people and the people who support their learning. When both groups contribute, the project has a better chance of creating a game that is enjoyable, understandable and useful in different educational contexts.
